Nurjahan Julie Begum
I am a day centre officer at Russia Lane day centre with older people with dementia in Tower Hamlets and before that with older people projects in museums, e.g the GEFFRYE Museum of the home and garden with the Asian women’s project, the Evergreen gardening project and outreach to care homes.
I chose this object because it represents the diversity of my life, where I live and the people I work with in Tower Hamlets. The street Brick Lane has been home to thousands of migrants over hundreds of years and I am a second generation British Bengali, born and breed in the borough.
