Real Estate is a series of short think pieces about growing up in council housing by staff at London Metropolitan University. In 1981, a third of children lived in council housing in the UK, and for many families, moving into council housing represented a massive improvement in their living conditions, and a stable environment to help them realise their other ambitions. Council housing is seldom reported in a positive way.
These stories represent the ordinary and the positive, narratives that are too often missing in the media and in academia.
